Going to Vienna  [03.09.2005]
My name is Justin Bonomo. I�m 19 years old, and I�m a professional poker player from Washington DC. Welcome to my blog.

I�m sitting at a gate in Heathrow airport right now. There�s still three hours left in the layover before my flight to Vienna leaves. Flying long distances is really a pain in the ass.


For those of you that don�t know, I�m going to Vienna to play in the European Poker Tour. After that, I will be going to Monte Carlo for the EPT grand finale.

Since I�m not yet 21, it�s very hard for me to play live in the US. I�ve only been able to play four big tournaments, but I�m very happy with my results so far. My first was WPT Aruba, and although I was happy with my play (despite my lack of experience), I didn�t last until the dinner break. My next tournament was WPT Atlantis, and that was a great experience. I held the chip lead for more than half of day two, and ended up in 30th place. That paid ,600.

Next, I decided to spend a month in Europe and hit up two European Poker Tours while I was there. Copenhagen was first, and I narrowly missed the money. The top 18 spots paid, and I finished in 25th. At the end of my trip came EPT Deauville. I managed to make the final table, and take 4th place. That paid 31,500 euros (about ,000 usd). I love tournaments, and I�m looking forward to playing tomorrow. The buy-in is only 2,000 euros and Vienna isn�t exactly a hot spot for poker, so I�m not expecting a big turnout. I�d love to make back to back final tables, so I can�t say I will be disappointed with a small field. Either way, I like my chances. For the past three months, I have really felt like my game has been at its best, and I�m still improving every day.

The travel kills me. I hate long flights unless I have an open seat next to me; I just can�t get comfortable. I was planning on traveling with Josh Schlien (SDouble on PokerStars), but he had some passport trouble. Hopefully he�ll arrive in Vienna in a couple of days. He�s one of the many young players out there with a ton of talent. It really is a shame that we can�t even play poker in our own country. In a couple of years, when all of these guys turn 21, the WPT won�t be the same.

As I�m writing this, a large group of beautiful teenage girls just walked up to the gate I�m sitting at and basically surrounded me. If this isn�t a sign of great things to come, I don�t know what is. I�m officially unable to concentrate on writing, so I�ll give an update once I get to Vienna.
