The Quest is Complete! [07.11.2005]
I havent written a blog in a while. I just havent had any free time. My friends Kevin and Scott from UMD were in town visiting Wes, so the four of us spent a lot of time hanging out together. It was a lot of fun to see them again, and it really made me miss college life. On top of that, Ive had a lot of stuff to take care of like getting plates for my car, setting up a new bank account, and dealing with customer support from Amazon and Dell for packages that were delivered while I was out of the country. To make things worse, Ive been pretty sick for the past week. With all this going on, I decided to cancel my trip to Vegas.
The WSOP coverage so far has been exciting. At the beginning of Day 5 (aka day 3) several magic players were left including Brock Parker, Jon Finkel, Dan Clegg, Nick Eisel and Gabe Walls. Unfortunately GWalls is the only one left, but he has a monstrous stack of 750k chips.
There are two 2+2ers that Im very happy to see doing well. Carl Olson who got 2nd in Deauville (the French tournament I got 4th in) is still in contention, and of course, Greg Raymer has over a million chips at the moment. If Greg so much as makes the final table, his back to back performances will be the greatest poker feat of all time. When people say this is the tournament that means the most to every poker player, they arent kidding.
All of this is very depressing. Being 19 years old, I have to wait TWO more years before I can play. Even the players that busted early this year get to say, Theres always next year, but I cant even look forward to that. Two years seems like an eternity.
Ive played a lot of SNGs for my quest lately. After 818 sngs, I was up over $32,000 and averaging over $40 per SNG. My goal was to make 30k in this quest, so things were going very well, until they took a turn for the worse. After that, I went on the biggest downswing I have ever had at the $200+15 level, and lost $8,500. I was $2,000 above the goal I set for myself, 200 sngs before the end, and then had to deal with dropping down all the way to $23,500.
My last hundred sngs were about average. I wasnt able to make back all the money I lost in that downswing, but I still had a respectable finish. Ok, Im sure you are awaiting my stats, so here they are:
Total Played: 1009
Net Profit: $27,695
ROI: 12.77%
$ per SNG: $27.45
ITM: 36.17%
Time Spent: 90 hours, 52 minutes
Hourly Wage: $304.79
Distribution:
1st: 120
2nd: 135
3rd: 110
4th: 134
5th: 150
6th: 151
7th: 88
8th: 70
9th: 30
10th: 21
I should also mention that when I got disconnected w/ SNGs open, I listed them as 5th and 6th place finishes, so those two finishes are a little more predominant than they should be.
Overall I have to say I ran a little bad over the course of these sngs. I suffered a 6.5k and a 8.5k downswing in there. Also, the fact that I have more 2nd place finishes than 1sts is definitely an anomaly. I took far more than my share of bad beats when heads up. I am disgusted to look at Poker Tracker and see that I am down chips during the 300/600 blind level.
Also, I am starting to realize how often I misplay as a result of having 12 tables open. I think it wont be a problem once I get a 3rd monitor and dont have any overlap, but Ill stick to 8 tables for a while, or maybe experiment with 10 a little bit.
I should also point back that none of these numbers include rakeback. I will be receiving around $4,000 in rakeback for these sngs, so that will put me just over my goal of 30k, although it feels like a cop out to include that in my results.
Even though I feel like I ran a little bad over the course of these SNGs, I want to clarify that as a 19 year old, I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to make this kind of money from a job like poker. I will probably be playing many more sngs in the near future, at least when Im not traveling.
My head is pounding right now, so I just took some Excedrin PM. I should be asleep in no time. Thanks for reading!
